This is a skunk. There are none of them in Norway.

Yo. Though this is my user page, it is not about me. It is about Norway Trip.

NORWAY TRIP

Welcome to the official planning page of the /mu/ raids meetups in Norway in April 2008. This trip is for all people of /mu/ as well as anyone else who comes along. Our meetup dates and planned activities are based around Black Metal / Mayhem drama, but that's only because such things are funny; we do not wish to exclude anyone.

This page is a work in progress. It is also a wiki, so if you have anything useful to add, go ahead. (You will need a lurkmore wiki account, something I hadn't realized earlier. Sorry.) Questions and comments might go better on my talk page.

If you are interested in coming, sign below. Include the size of your party. Also, if you have any special useful skills (you speak Norwegian or you live in Norway, for example) make note.

wiki protip: type ~~~ and wiki will automatically replace it with a link to your user page.

Absolutely coming!

Hopefully coming

Preface (or How do I went on Norway Trip?)

You have 7ish months (this wiki lacks the ParserFunctions extension, so do your own math) to prepare for Norway Trip. That's a long time. So long, in fact, that you probably have no idea if you can come (or want to come) at this point. There are, however, things you can start doing now to prepare.

Start saving money because unless you live in Oslo or Tromsø, Norway Trip is not just a quick hop down the street. If you live in the US, expect to spend $600 getting to Norway and back. Once in Norway, you'll want to have money too. It's certainly possible to vagabond your way through the country, but you don't want to be a dirty hobo, do you?
Find someone to go with because, dude, you're going to Norway. The /mu/ activities will take two days, and the rest of the time, you're on your own, and you probably want to enjoy it. If you want to spend the entire time with /mu/ people, let me know and I'll make you responsible for organizing it.
Have a passport that is valid and stuff. This might require getting a passport if you don't already have one.

Rules of Norway trip

  1. Do not talk about 4chan
  2. Do not talk about 4chan to the Norwegian press.
  3. This is not a field trip. This is not a guided tour. You are responsible for getting in, around, and out of Norway by yourself.
  4. Even if you plan on being stupid the rest of the trip, seriously, don't be a dick when we visit gravesites. Especially if anyone else is there.
  5. Don't do anything stupid and get caught. If you do, do not talk about 4chan.

Rules of Norway

  1. The drinking age in Norway is 18 (20 for high alcohol stuff.) For anything but kiddie beer, you buy your alcohol from the government. Something crazy like that.
  2. Norway is not to be confused with Holland. Don't try to do drugs. They will get mad at you.
  3. Driving:
    1. You have to use your headlights all the time, even if it's not the middle of the winter when there's no sun.
    2. Don't speed, seriously. Norway is a speed trap.
    3. Also, seat belts are super mandatory and they will get you.
  4. 911 in Norwegian is "112"

Rules of this page

  1. Don't be a dick and vandalize. I'll regularly come in and format stuff, but try to keep it neat.

Meetups

The first meetup will occur on April 8th somewhere in Oslo. The second meetup will occur sometime later in April in Tromsø (date to be set when we find out if / when Varg gets out of jail). The time in between you are left on your own to explore Norway and to cover the approximately 1021 miles between Oslo and Tromsø. (If anyone is interested in organizing a /mu/ group itinerary for the middle part, let me know.)

Oslo Meetup

When: April 8th, anniversary of Dead's suicide
Where: ???
Plans: Have lunch somewhere, go on a Mayhem tour of Oslo

More details coming, once I figure out what constitutes a good Mayhem tour of Oslo.

Planned activities

Helvete Vårt Daglige Brød
This picture was found unlabeled on the official Mayhem website in the same section as a picture of where Dead shot himself and a picture of what looks like a body being carried away from a crime scene. I'd guess that this is Euronymous's apartment building, but really, I have no idea.

These activities are listed in approximate order of likelihood, not in the order in which they'd likely happen. I expect we'll meet up at Helvete (it seems like a good place to meet up) and then go from there in some traveling salesman cycle reasonable order based on traveling distance.

Helvete
Schweigaardsgate 56, Oslo, Norway

Euronymous's old store, now long closed, but the building is still there. It's apparently a bakery now, but the basement is still intact, complete with the badly drawn pentagram that Varg and others have been photographed in front of, and if we ask nicely, we can go downstairs and look. Plan to repay these nice folks by buying lots of yummy bread from them. (Info from The Metal Travel Guide)

Euronymous's grave
Ski nye kirke, Ski, Norway

This is about 18 miles south of Oslo. I'll work out plans to get there later. (It looks like there is a train.) Anyway, it's closer than Dead's grave. And yes, it is a church cemetery. I'm sure they're used to crazies, but really, behave yourself.

That place where Dead shot himself
Sørumvegen, Kråkstad

If I have my information right, this is another 2 miles south of Euronymous's gravesite. I'm not entirely sure about this street name; source lists "Sørumviein Road" but that doesn't exist and this is the closest. I'm also not entirely sure the building still stands.

That place where Euronymous got killed
I think I've narrowed it down to Tøyen, Oslo

I think I've narrowed it down to Tøyen, Oslo (by examining this low-res newspaper scan and guessing at what things mean) which has the nice property of being a subsection of Oslo but which is still unfortunately kind of large. I also think I found a picture of it.

Tromsø Meetup

When: ???
Where: ???
Plans: Have lunch somewhere, go watch Varg get released (if possible)

Planned activities

Watch Varg get out of prison
Baldersvei 15, Tromsø Prison

If he gets out of prison...

Travel

Flying in

Getting from Oslo to Tromsø

It's time to start pining for the fjords.

Check this shit out. Doesn't that look awesome? Try zooming in and stuff. This is going to be the best roadtrip based on a meme ever.

To quote the googlemaps directions,

Exit onto E6/Omkjøringsvegen
Continue to follow E6
Go through 17 traffic circles

Busses

Probably your best bet. I'll do research later.

Bus and Train mixes

There are no trains from Oslo to Tromsø, but there are trains. Trains are generally a little more agreeable than busses, so you might want to mix things up.

Renting a car

I'd suggest this option only if you have a number of people with you who are over 25 and can drive stick. (Given that, this is what I'm going to try to do myself.) This option requires $$$ but gives you the most freedom to explore. A cursory look at the first few sites google popped up suggest that you'll need about $600 + gas (like $4 - $5 a gallon) or so for a Jetta-sized car for a week. I'll post more details when I look into this more.

One thing to be careful of - A lot of cities in Norway are going out of their way to make travel by car within the city annoying as fuck. If you are in a major city' center, you are better off parking your car somewhere and walking everywhere.

Car Ferries

The drive is doable without these (? - eh details for later), but if you hug the coast, you'll have the option / opportunity to do some of these.

Hitchhiking

Apparently hitchhiking is not a bad idea in Norway. It's perfectly safe and people are helpful as long as you do it in daylight hours. ::scratch head::

I don't feel right recommending hitchhiking. That's just too weird. Forget I said anything.

Biking

Only if you're crazy (and actually fit to do this.) If you're fit enough to bike across Norway, I'll assume you know what you're doing.

Things to do in Norway when you're not hanging out with /mu/

While it's perfectly reasonable to travel to Norway to see Varg get out of prison, it is not perfectly reasonable to travel to Norway just to see Varg get out of prison.

(I'll work on this more later.)

Oslo

Tromsø

Bergen

Though I'm pretty sure neither is valid any more, this image has on it the addresses of Varg and Samoth.

Norway's second largest city. It's not directly along the path from Oslo to Tromsø, but it shouldn't be that hard to fit into your itinerary. It's possible to travel from Bergen to Oslo, kill someone, get back to Bergen, and set up an alibi before the cops show up all in one night.

METAL things to do:
Visit Fantoft Stave Church - featured prominently on the cover of Burzum's Aske, though it has since been rebuilt. (Please please don't burn it down. You're not doing anyone any favors.)
Hunt down Varg's old apartment. - see image. Google maps and Norwegian addresses don't get along very well... Google Maps Norway says it's here.
OTHER things to do:
Wikitravel link

Stockholm (Sweden lol)

Stockholm (much like skunks) isn't in Norway. However, it isn't very far from Norway, and you might be interested in going there.

METAL things to do:
Visit Dead's grave. Unfortunately, the /mu/ meetup on April 8th, anniversary of Dead's death, can't visit Dead's grave because it's too far away. However, that doesn't mean you can't stop by by yourself at some point. He's in some place called Skogskyrkogården, in the suburbs of Stockholm. (Note: a ranty post on the official Mayhem board suggests that this might be incorrect. I'll look into it more before the trip, if no one else does first.)
OTHER things to do:
Visit the graves of other famous people buried near Dead. Might as well. Dude. Greta Garbo.
Wikitravel link

Prestfoss (Sigdal)

This is a small town in the middle of nowhere, but if you're traveling between Oslo and Bergen, it's kind of along the way.

METAL things to do:
Visit a 19th century art museum!. No really, it's metal. This is the museum of Theodor Kittelsen, the guy Varg used for most of Burzum's cover art.

The Lyrics to Norwegian Sky

Learn this so we have something to look stupid singing.

Sung to the tune of American Pie.

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How his screaming used to make me smile.
And I knew if I got to play
pure Black Metal for Norway,
only the true kvlt would like my style...

But April made me melancholic.
Øystein's photos were vitriolic.
The letter stained in dried mud,
read "Please excuse all the blood."

I can't remember if I cried;
I know it touched me deep inside.
I'd never seen a suicide,
until the day Dead died.

So bye-bye; the Norwegian sky
won't see sun until the summer,
all of winter is night.
Them good old boys, with their corpse paint and spikes
singing "This'll be the day that you die,
This'll be the day that you die."

Pagans know a kind of love
that those Christ-fags have no concept of,
though their Bible tells them so.
And do you believe that Rock and Roll,
insipid, kills your mortal soul;
with the life of depravation they extol.

Well you know that music from Sweden,
well, it bugs us like a phantom limb
Death Metal is crap,
And we like our metal Black, oh!

I was a deranged teenage arson brat
with a baby face and a large spiked bat.
It's nothing to be laughing at,
it shows my Nordic Pride.

I started singing:
Bye-bye; the Norwegian sky
won't see sun until the summer,
all of winter is night.
Them good old boys, with their corpse paint and spikes
singing "This'll be the day that you die,
This'll be the day that you die."

Now for two years we've been on our own,
a Lappish retard on our throne
But that's not how it used to be,
When I started singing at age fourteen
with a name I borrowed from Tolkien
and a voice that sounded quite extreme.

Oh and while the midnight sun was down
we burned some churches to the ground.
We set alight the fuse,
That fire was our muse!

And with Attila singing all his parts,
the bootleg Dawn of the Black Hearts
was Dead's last impact on the arts.
Oh well, I guess he tried.

We were singing:
Bye-bye; the Norwegian sky
won't see sun until the summer,
all of winter is night.
Them good old boys, with their corpse paint and spikes
singing "This'll be the day that you die,
This'll be the day that you die."

Excess agress in a northern darkness.
The weak, when questioned all did confess.
Our crime wave was burning faaaaaaast
and when the cops caught us at last
their evidence fell short of pass,
though the Fantoft was the cover of my Aske.

Oh, with Deathlike Silence signed again,
Euronymous was quite some friend.
He always needed cash,
oh he was so bad with finance!

So I called him unprofessional.
He said I was obsessional.
He couldn't get it through his skull,
He really was that dumb.

We started singing:
Bye-bye; the Norwegian sky
won't see sun until the summer,
all of winter is night.
Them good old boys, with their corpse paint and spikes
singing "This'll be the day that you die,
This'll be the day that you die."

And so there I was at his place
I brought our contract just in case
He wanted to start again.
Now you know he's not nimble, he's not quick.
Still he attacked me with a kick,
And so I took my knife out to defeeeeend

And as I stabbed him in the face
my hands were clenched in fists of rage
Then on his lamp he fell
That bastard sure can yell!

Oh and to think the man that all admired,
with whom I'd set churches afire,
would at my hands so quick expire.
Euronymous had died.

He was singing:
Bye-bye; the Norwegian sky
won't see sun until the summer,
all of winter is night.
Them good old boys, with their corpse paint and spikes
singing "This'll be the day that you die,
This'll be the day that you die."

I met a man who wrote the news,
A sellout to the filthy Jews.
So I just smiled and turned away.
And they closed down the metal store
Øystein had opened years before,
though we all knew selling metal wouldn't pay.

And in the streets, the posers cried,
Hellhammer wept, and the press was snide,
They called for my repentance
or at least a longer sentence.
And the bands that I had liked the best
from true black metal all digressed
or, as they put it, they progressed
That's how my music died.

And they were singing:
bye-bye; the Norwegian sky
won't see sun until the summer,
all of winter is night.
Them good old boys, with their corpse paint and spikes
singing "This'll be the day that you die,
This'll be the day that you die."
