RapidShare is the original well known file sharing site, originally named rapidshare.de. rapidshare.de ended up screwing everyone by shutting down without notice, this was around the time when competitors started appearing, and they were all better than RapidShare at what they were doing. RapidShare, at the same time as shutting down their .de site, made rapidshare.com, which ended up being just as shit. The two sites pretended that they weren't affiliated in order to prevent people who paid for a premium account on the .de site from being able to use the .com site.
